Suicide Prevention Classes & Training

NUHOPE and its community partners are proud to offer a number of suicide prevention and/or mental health training and education opportunities throughout Weber and Davis Counties. Our teachers are certified to teach proven, effective courses to help prevent suicide, identify and support loved ones with mental illness, and help communities recover after a suicide loss.

Hope Squads

Suicide is the number one cause of death for young people in Utah. To combat that, NUHOPE supports Hope Squads in our local schools. Hope Squads are the eyes and ears of a school. They are comprised of students who are trained to watch for at-risk students–provide friendship, identify warning signs, and seek help from adults. Hope Squad advisors train students who have been identified by their classmates as trustworthy peers to serve as Hope Squad members. Through evidence-based training modules, Hope Squad members are empowered to seek help and save a life. Hope Squad members are NOT taught to act as counselors, but rather, are educated on how to recognize signs of suicide contemplation, and how to properly and respectfully report this to an adult.

NUHOPE supports Hope Squads in Davis, Ogden, Box Elder and Morgan School Districts, but the program is expanding to schools nationwide. Contact us if you would like one of our instructors to present to your Hope Squad.

Legacy Suicide Survivors Support Network

LEGACY is a non-profit support network for families and friends who have lost loved ones to suicide.  Our group is comprised of individuals who have experienced this traumatic event first hand and know the heartbreak and personal suffering that follows.  Group members graciously volunteer their time to assist those friends and family members left behind, and give the comfort that only those who have endured such pain can provide.
